Controversial author Helen Walsh is coming to Halton, as part of Halton Libraries National Libraries Day next month. Helen, originally from Warrington, has a reputation of writing what other people are afraid to say.
Helen Walsh was born in Warrington, England, in 1976. Her first novel, Brass, was published in 2004 and was the winner of a Betty Trask Prize. Her second novel, Once Upon a Time in England, was the winner of a Somerset Maugham Prize. Go To Sleep is her third novel and reflects her own experience of early motherhood and the effects of sleep deprivation. Helen herself suffered hallucinations, suicidal thoughts and psychosis.

Go to Sleep' has been described as "...devastatingly honest and shockingly painful at times...heart-wrenching story about one woman and her newborn child...strips motherhood bare" and "a brave and uncompromising novel that absolutely needed to be written."

This event is supported by Time to Read's project Here & Now: New NW writing in NW libraries and is free.

For more information on the author and NW libraries partnership visit ‘Time to Read’  and Helen Walsh
