The shortlist for the CWA Daggers 2009 has been announced. The nominations for the International Dagger reflect the huge increase in interest around Scandinavian crime fiction in recent years:

Arnaldur Indridason, The Arctic Chill
Stieg Larsson, The Girl who Played with Fire
Jo Nesbo, The Redeemer
Johan Theorin, Echoes from the Dead
Fred Vargas, The Chalk Circle Man
Larsson's third and final novel The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest is published this autumn and its release is set to coincide with that of the film version of his first novel. It seems that interest in the genre is unlikely to be going away any time soon.

ReplyDeleteI have been reading a few Scandinavian thrillers recently including titles by Jo Nesbø, Arnaldur Indridason and Karin Fossum.
ReplyDeleteI think that Scandinavian locations make British readers out of their comfort zone and consistently come up with great plotlines that are as cold and bleak as the locations in which they are set. I would advise anyone that reads thirillers/crime novels to give them a go.
